A beautiful gender reveal at Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort in Miches
Some family photo sessions become more than portraits. They become emotional memories that will stay with the family forever. That is exactly what happened with Helena, Brian and their little daughter during this maternity and gender reveal photoshoot at Playa Esmeralda, one of the most beautiful beaches in Miches, Dominican Republic.
Helena and Brian traveled from Canada for a family vacation at the new Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort. Before the session, we shared our live location and a short description of what we were wearing, which is something we often do to make it easier for our clients to find us on the beach.
A few minutes later, we were walking together on the sand, ready to photograph a very special chapter in their family story.
A cloudy sunset session on Playa Esmeralda
Miches is famous for its spectacular sunsets, wide beaches and tropical scenery. That evening in June, the sky was quite cloudy and the golden sunset did not fully appear.
But for maternity and family photography, cloudy light can be a gift. It creates soft, flattering and even light, perfect for natural portraits by the Caribbean Sea.
We started with classic family photos and maternity portraits along Playa Esmeralda. Their daughter quickly became one of the most charming parts of the session, bringing movement, tenderness and spontaneity to every image.
The secret their daughter almost could have revealed
The biggest surprise of the session was the gender reveal.
Helena and Brian had brought everything they needed to discover whether their new baby would be a boy or a girl. But there was one funny little challenge.
Their daughter was under two years old, but she already knew some colors.
After the reveal, they told us they were a little nervous that she might see the blue paint and accidentally say the color while they were still blindfolded.
Luckily, the secret stayed safe.
Their little girl participated naturally in the moment while her parents waited with their eyes covered, not knowing what was about to happen.

With their eyes covered, Helena and Brian started to feel the paint on their hands and on the baby bump.
Little by little, the blue color appeared.
The emotion grew with every second. Smiles started to appear even before they removed the blindfolds.
Then came the moment.
When they saw the blue paint, the reaction was instant.
Joy, surprise, laughter and emotion all came together in one unforgettable moment. Helena and Brian discovered that they were expecting a baby boy.
It was one of those real moments that cannot be repeated or staged, and that is exactly what makes it so beautiful to photograph.
A proud future big sister
After the reveal, we continued the session with sweet family portraits.
Their daughter became the heart of the celebration. Between hugs, kisses, laughter and blue paint, it was easy to imagine all the adventures she will soon share with her baby brother.
Some of our favorite photos from this session are the quiet moments where she interacts with her mother’s baby bump, completely unaware of how meaningful this memory will become in the future.
Years from now, these images will help tell her the story of the day she helped announce her baby brother.
