A Sweet Surprise in Punta Cana: Paola & Enzo Are Having a Baby

Some vacations leave you with beautiful photos.

Others leave you with a story that changes everything.

Paola and Enzo traveled from Brazil to Punta Cana already waiting for the most important little person in their lives: their baby. But there was something many of their family members and friends still didn't know.

They were going to become parents.

That's how the idea for this photoshoot began.

They didn't simply want beautiful maternity photos by the Caribbean Sea. They wanted to create the photographs they would use to announce their pregnancy to the people they love.

And for news this big, we didn't need to say very much at all.

A little secret between the two of them… for just a little longer

We started the photoshoot simply.

Walking along the shore. Sitting by the ocean. Hugging. Looking at each other.

For the first few minutes, their story could have been just that of a couple enjoying a vacation together in Punta Cana.

But then little details began to give their secret away.

A hand resting on Paola's belly. The way Enzo looked at her. A kiss that wasn't only for Paola anymore.

That's one of the things we love about a maternity photoshoot in Punta Cana: it doesn't need to become a huge production to have meaning.

Sometimes the story is already there.

Our job is simply to find the most beautiful and authentic way to photograph it.

The photo that finally revealed the news

Then came the moment to stop keeping the secret.

Paola and Enzo had brought something very special to include in their photos: their baby's ultrasound.

Suddenly, the whole story becomes clear.

The two of them softly in the background. Their baby's ultrasound in the foreground. And one photograph that hardly needs an explanation:

We're having a baby.

We love this image precisely because of its simplicity.

You don't need to fill a beach with props or organize an elaborate setup to make a pregnancy announcement meaningful. An ultrasound, a tiny pair of shoes, a baby outfit, or simply the parents' hands resting on the baby bump can be enough to create something completely personal.

And there's another part of this photograph that we love imagining.

Somewhere back in Brazil, family and friends would receive this image and discover for the first time that Paola and Enzo's family was growing.

Before they become three, they're still Paola and Enzo

A maternity photoshoot is also about the couple.

Because somewhere between preparing for the baby's arrival, thinking about names, wondering what their little one will look like and imagining how much life is about to change, there is another story.

The one that came first.

Their story.

That's why we didn't want every photograph to be about the baby bump.

We also wanted to preserve the way they looked at each other, hugged and enjoyed their vacation together during these last months before beginning an entirely new chapter.

It's the same philosophy we bring to our couples photoshoots in Punta Cana.

Magda guides when guidance is useful — where to stand, how to use the light or which little movement might create a beautiful photograph — but then you have to leave room for something real to happen.

Because a technically perfect photograph can be beautiful.

A photograph in which you recognize yourselves can stay with you for a lifetime.

A few minutes just for the mom-to-be

And then we gave Enzo a little break.

It was Paola's turn.

Pregnancy is an incredibly short chapter when you look back on it years later.

For a few months, your body seems to change almost every week. Your belly grows, new little gestures appear, and somehow your hand starts resting on your baby bump without you even thinking about it.

Then the baby arrives, and everything changes again.

That's why we like to reserve part of every maternity session for portraits of the mom-to-be on her own.

Nothing complicated is necessary.

Paola, her baby bump, her dress moving in the Caribbean breeze and the ocean behind her.

These may not be the photographs they chose to announce their pregnancy.

But years from now, they may become some of the ones she treasures the most.

A beach in Bávaro and a story traveling all the way back to Brazil

Paola and Enzo were staying at Impressive Punta Cana, and we photographed their maternity session on the beach in the Bávaro area.

It gave us everything we needed: space to walk along the sand, palm trees, the Caribbean Sea and enough variety to move naturally between romantic couple portraits and maternity photographs.

And this matters to us.

When a couple contacts us for photos during their vacation, we don't want them to remember only how the pictures looked.

We want them to remember how they felt while we were taking them.

Because photographs eventually preserve much more than a beautiful beach.

They preserve a version of our lives that will never exist in quite the same way again.

For Paola and Enzo, these images will always belong to those days in the Dominican Republic when they could walk along the beach together knowing something that many of the people they loved still didn't know.

And then we stopped posing

After the quieter portraits, there was only one thing left to do.

Get closer to the water.

And apparently, getting close to the Caribbean without eventually ending up in the Caribbean is a skill we still haven't mastered.

That's when the posing disappeared.

And the laughter took over.

It's often one of our favorite parts of a photoshoot because the camera gradually becomes less important. The couple plays, gets wet, hugs and, for a few minutes, goes back to simply being on vacation.

Years from now, they will probably see something very different when they look at these photographs.

They'll remember what life was like before they knew their baby's face.

The anticipation. The conversations. The nerves. And probably all the things they imagined about the life that was about to begin.

And one day, they'll be able to point at these photographs and say:

“Look. You were in Punta Cana with us too.”
