Every year in Punta Cana, we meet couples, families and groups of friends who want to preserve a special memory from their vacation. But some sessions carry a deeper meaning. This was one of them.

During their stay at Hotel Barcelo Punta Cana, a family of 21 people decided to celebrate something that is becoming harder and harder to organize: spending time together across three generations. Grandparents, adult children, couples and grandchildren used their vacation in the Dominican Republic to create memories that will last long after the trip is over.

As photographers in Punta Cana, we are lucky to work with families from all over the world, but multigenerational family sessions always have a special place in our hearts. Beyond beautiful photos, they are a chance to bring together people who may live in different cities, follow different routines and rarely get the opportunity to be all in the same place.

What may have looked like just another vacation activity for some children became one of the most meaningful experiences of the trip for the grandparents. And maybe that is why, after photographing so many families over the years, we still believe that a family photoshoot can become the favorite excursion of many grandparents in Punta Cana.

When three generations meet in Punta Cana

Modern families often live in different cities, states or even countries. Planning a vacation where everyone can be together is not always easy.

That is why, when grandparents, adult children and grandchildren finally gather in a destination as special as Punta Cana, the occasion deserves to be remembered.

For many children, a family photoshoot may feel like just one more activity between the pool, the beach and the ice cream. For grandparents, it often becomes one of the most important memories of the entire trip.

The photographs taken during these vacations will not only remember the place, but also a very specific stage in the life of every family member.

The challenge of photographing a family of 21 people

Organizing a session for a large family is very different from photographing a couple or a family of four.

For this session, we worked with:

- 10 adults

- 11 children

- several smaller families inside one large family

- different ages

- different levels of energy and patience

When there are so many people involved, the photographer’s job is not only to take beautiful photos. It is also about coordinating groups, keeping children engaged, organizing the order of the portraits and making sure everyone enjoys the experience.

That is why we always begin with the most important photo: the portrait of the entire family together.

This way, we make sure the main memory is captured while everyone is present and the children still have energy and enthusiasm.

The advantage of choosing PuntaCanaFotoRD for large families

One of the reasons many families choose us for this type of session is that we work as a team.

While Magda focuses on the artistic side of the session, guiding poses, finding the best light and capturing natural emotions, Pascal takes care of everything happening behind the camera.

During a large family session, Pascal helps to:

- organize the next family groups

- quickly gather the people needed for each photo

- keep an eye on bags and personal belongings

- hold phones and sunglasses

- take care of outfit changes and accessories

- help with younger children

- look for forgotten items without interrupting the session

- talk with family members while they wait for their turn

This organization makes the experience much smoother, more relaxed and more enjoyable for everyone.

During this session, we even shared conversations in French with one of the fathers in the family, which once again reminded us that photography is also a human experience built on trust, connection and kindness.

A stress-free experience for parents and grandparents

One of the things large families appreciate the most is not having to worry about the logistics.

When a big family arrives at a public beach, there are usually bags, shoes, phones, extra outfits, toys for the children and many small details to manage.

Having two professionals present allows parents and grandparents to focus on enjoying the moment while we take care of the organization.

The result is a much more fluid and pleasant session for everyone.

Barcelo Punta Cana and its surroundings: a beautiful setting for family photos

The beach near Barcelo Punta Cana offers several beautiful natural backgrounds for family photography.

During this session, we used different Caribbean settings:

- tropical vegetation

- white sand

- turquoise Caribbean waters

- leaning palm trees

- a spectacular old pine tree near the beach

This variety allowed us to create a complete gallery without long walks or unnecessary interruptions.

Each family group received unique images while keeping the natural beauty of the Dominican Caribbean in every photo.

This was not our first time photographing guests from this resort. You can also discover another family story from Barcelo Punta Cana in this family photoshoot blog captured during a Caribbean vacation.

Teenagers are part of the story too

When people think about family photography, they often imagine small children. But teenagers also have an important place in these sessions.

Some arrive with very little desire to pose and would rather be at the pool, on their phone or anywhere else.

Funny enough, they often become some of the most spontaneous participants once they realize the session is relaxed, fun and pressure-free.

Photos taken during the teenage years often become especially valuable as time passes.

The photo that will matter most twenty years from now

Many families think their favorite photo will be the couple portrait or the children’s portrait.

Our experience has shown us something different.

Over time, the image that often becomes the most meaningful is the one where grandparents, adult children and grandchildren are all together.

A photograph of three generations tells a story that may never be repeated in exactly the same way again.

That is why we always give special attention to these portraits.

Tips for organizing a photoshoot with a large family in Punta Cana

If you are planning a family vacation in Punta Cana, these tips can help:

1. Coordinate similar colors without dressing everyone exactly the same.

2. Schedule the session early in your stay to have flexibility in case of weather changes.

3. Start with the full group photo.

4. Bring water and small snacks for the children.

5. Trust your photographer to organize the groups and make the best use of the time.

A memory that will last for generations

Vacations end, children grow and the years pass faster than we imagine.

Family photographs have the power to preserve moments that will never happen in exactly the same way again.

For this family from Barcelo Punta Cana, the photoshoot was much more than a vacation activity. It was a chance to celebrate family connection, spend time together and create memories they will enjoy for generations.

And maybe that is why, after photographing so many families in Punta Cana, we still believe this can become grandparents’ favorite excursion.
